RawInput method and driver configuration

Postby alexandre.extier » Tue Oct 18, 2011 6:20 am

Hello,

I work on the interface of a 3d application.

As adviced by your last SDK, I just switch my 3d mouse implementation from 3DxInput method to RawInput method of windows.

It works well even without any driver installation : good !!!

Then I create a configuration for my application.

But this configuration is taken into account only if I edit the XML file by the hand and change the line "<Transport>KMJ</Transport>" to <Transport>RawInput</Transport>.

My customer cannot make this complex operation.
Is there any another way to make work rawinput method with the driver configuration more easily ?

Thanks for your answers.

The driver requires the correct setting in the profile to recognize your application.

If your customer can not copy/edit the file, you can install the correct profile as part of the installation of your application.

I don't understand why the method adviced by 3dconnexion isn't the default method used in configuration file you create !

Another solution should be to become a partner of 3dconnexion.
In this case, I think my configuration should be installed with the 3d mouse driver.
Is it a complex procedure ? Is it free ?

When you create a profile, you have to pick a template. You selected the keyboard, mouse, joystick emulation template. There used to be an option in 3DxConfig for Raw Input, but that got taken out because it confused some people.

We are thinking of creating a mechanism for you to post your profile on a web site, and the software will find it and automatically download it for your application.

Thank you for your reactivity.

Your idea to download the profile from an internet server is good ( but an internet connection is needed ). For the moment, I think I will provide the profile in my installation and custumers will be able to import it in the driver software.

You can stuff it into the correct directory as part of your installation.
