Is anyone using 3DxWare for photography?

Postby bluestorm » Tue Jun 28, 2011 10:43 pm

Hello!
Is anyone using 3DxWare for photography in software like Lightroom, Bibble or Capture One? I am a photographer and I am looking forward to buy SpaceNavigator for my photo edit workflow. Will it make sense to use it if there is no 3D at all? Also I would like to experience web in more details panning, zooming and scrolling sites and documents, that I do most of the time. What's your experience?[/b]

it depends on how much you can control a software with key commands. The more key command options, the more a 3dx device can be useful. I use them for almost every application, most of them are non-3D. But I'm not sure if a SpaceNavigator (with only two buttons) will significantly improve your photo edit workflow. But it surely is a good device for many task, thanks to the beta driver. I still would recommend it for you.

I don't use key command a lot. Most think are manged by mouse. I would see a use of this device in panning, zooming, rotating and it would be nice to control slide-bars as well.

Hi bluestorm,

I use the Space Navigator in Photoshop all the time, zoom, pan, and now with the Beta version I've managed to get rotate canvas to work.

I spend hours and hours editing photos (professionally), and use a combination of inputs as follows:
The Space Nav noted above,
Intuos 4 8x13 for drawing, and use the ring mostly for brush size
Use the spacebar, and alt, ctrl, shift keys for their modifier functions
Mouse for navigation
And for heavy sessions I use voice contro!l - using the free software VoiceCommand from Killers Software see here http://www.killerssoftware.com/

Typically used by gamers, it is a great help in PS - I just ask for the tool I want, without moving my pen etc, plus other actions like save the file, selections, run actions and so on.
Win 7 64, Space Navigator
